Extending high and low frequencies by predicting harmonics and sub-harmonics

摘要:As a seismic wavelet is band-limited, the resolution of seismic data is also limited. Extending the bandwidth of a seismic signal is an important way to improve the resolution of seismic data. In this abstract, we extend the bandwidth of seismic data via a harmonic prediction scheme. After decomposing the seismic signal to different frequencies by continuous complex wavelet transform, we can define the basic frequency and the fundamental frequency band width, and predict the harmonics from the available bandwidth. The resolution of the seismic data will be enhanced after adding the harmonics into the data. This method can also extend the low frequencies by adding subharmonics. We use the harmonic prediction method to process a real seismic dataset from Shengli oilfield in East China. By adding harmonics and sub-harmonics to the seismic data, we extend the low frequencies and high frequencies effectively. The resolution of the seismic data is enhanced without decreasing the signal-to-noise ratio.
