On the static mechanics of the tubular system during installation of the surface casing in deepwater drilling
摘要:When the surface casing hole section is accomplished, the surface casing will be installed into the hole by the landing string for cementing operation in deepwater drilling. During this process, the landing string and surface casing will present complex mechanical behavior due to the severe external load subjected to them, which has a significant impact on the safety and efficiency of the cementing operation. Thus, it is necessary to study the mechanical characteristics of the tubular mechanics to ensure the successful implementation of the surface casing installation. In this paper, the mechanical model and control equation are established to illustrate the static mechanics of the tubular system regarding the surface casing installation. In this model, the gravity, buoyancy force, lateral wave-current force and the top horizontal displacement of the floating drilling vessel are considered. The control equation is solved by the weighted residual method in the theoretical analysis. Then, the numerical simulation conducted in the ABAQUS software is given to verify the correctness of the theoretical derivation and solution, and good agreement is presented between the results of the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. On this basis, parameters sensitivity analysis is discussed to reveal the influence of the top horizontal displacement of the drilling vessel, current profile and geometry of the landing string on the mechanical characteristics of the tubular system. Analysis results show that, due to the sea wave and current, there is a certain distance between the subsea wellhead and the bottom of surface casing when the surface casing is lowered to the mud line. The horizontal deformation of the inner string is similar with the surface casing in the tubular system, while the horizontal deformation and the Von Mises stress appear abrupt change at the mechanical rigid locked down (MRLD). With the increase of the top horizontal displacement of the drilling vessel and the sea surface current velocity, the horizontal deformation and the Von Mises stress of the tubular system increase accordingly, which means that the difficulty of the surface casing entering into the surface hole increase. This paper is of reference value for operation control of the surface casing installation in deepwater drilling.
