Experimental analysis on rock failure mechanism under the joint action of cutting and jet impingement
摘要:Hot dry rock (HDR) is an important global clean energy resource. However, the drilling process is difficult due to the hardness and abrasiveness of the rock. In this paper, the single PDC cutter tests were conducted to investigate the mechanism of rock breaking at different target temperatures (25-480℃). Besides, the effects of high-pressure water jet on the rock failure process were studied as well, which is of great importance to improve the efficiency of geothermal exploitation. The cutting force and the mechanical specific energy (MSE) were used to estimate the efficiency of rock breaking. At the same time, we measured the mass fraction of cuttings with different sizes and morphology of cutting grooves. The results show that micro-cracks would be induced when high-pressure water jet contact with the rock with high temperature. Consequently, the brittle failure dominates more easily and the mass fraction of chunk-like cuttings will increase. The topography of cutting grooves shows that the roughness of the rock surface increases significantly at higher temperatures. Meanwhile, the increase in the temperature of the rock will lead to a decrease in the cutting force and MSE. That is, the efficiency of rock breaking will be improved.
