Experiment of liquid nitrogen cryogenic cracking on rock and its application prospect in oil & gas exploration and production
摘要:To investigate the influences of liquid nitrogen cryogenic cracking characteristics of rock, the sandstone and marble were selected as the experimental samples. The methods of scanning electron microscope and nuclear magnetic resonance were employed to test the influences of liquid nitrogen cryogenic cracking on rock micro-structure. Besides, the change in compressive strength was tested by uniaxial compression method. The experimental results indicated that liquid nitrogen cryogenic cracking could lead to the development of the micro-fissures and micro-pores. When water is contained in rock, the pore water is frozen and expanded, and therefore intensify the cracking degree. The mechanical property of rock was deteriorated and the strength decreased due to the action of liquid nitrogen cryogenic cracking. Therefore, liquid nitrogen can improve rock-breaking efficiency and reduce the time of hole-making as a drilling fluid, can induce more micro-fractures on the face of main fracture as well as lead to natural fractures opening as a fracturing fluid.
