Modelling acoustic measurements in horizontal and deviated wells and anisotropic slowness estimation for VTI formations
摘要:With an increasing number of deviated and horizontal wells drilled for the exploration and exploitation of unconventional plays, studies on how formation slowness is measured and influenced in TI medium have attracted more interest. We have studied the effects of deviated and horizontal wells in VTI formations with a newly developed finite difference method (FDM). The Bond transformation is applied to the elastic matrices for the FDM to turn the VTI medium into a TTI medium, and thus keep the equivalent physical properties while fitting the deviated boundary of borehole fluid and solid formation exactly. A hybrid PML is implemented in this FDM scheme to ensure the accuracy and stability of the simulations. According to these studies, we have found that anisotropy will lead to a larger slowness than that of isotropic cases. The acquired slowness will get closer to the slowness in the horizontal direction as the dip angle increases. Through the specific simulations of acoustic slowness detected from different tools in VTI media with different dip angles and anisotropy ratios, we propose a slowness estimation method, which provides an efficient way to estimate the slowness during acoustic logging in horizontal and deviated wells.
