A discontinuity detection strategy based on analytic and distance-weighted coherence
摘要:Structural and stratigraphic discontinuities usually contribute to the construction of traps and reservoirs. Coherence measurement is an effective tool for representing geological discontinuities such as faults, channels and stratigraphic features in 3D seismic data volumes. Compared with classical real-valued coherence algorithm, coherence calculation with analytic traces can produce both dip related information and discontinuity measurement. One of the key parts of coherence algorithm with analytic traces is to construct the covariance matrix. In this paper, we proposed a new way to construct covariance matrix which helps to retrieve higher resolution. In addition, as traces of different distances are used to calculate the covariance matrix, we take the influence of different distances into account by linear weighted superposition to further improve the final result. Real data example demonstrates that the proposed strategy successfully detects fault systems with a higher resolution and a better signal to noise ratio. © 2016 SEG.
