Influence factors analysis of anisotropic fracture prediction using ellipse fitting

摘要:Fracture is crucial in unconventional resource exploration for its ability in increasing rock porosity and raising the oil/gas production. Therefore, it is very important to detect fractures in subsurface especially in tight reservoirs. The P-wave anisotropic fracture prediction using ellipse fitting, which is simple and easy to realize, had been widely used to predict the azimuth and density of fractures. However, some influence factors of this method are often ignored. This paper focuses on illustrating and analyzing the influence of azimuth distribution, physical property of the cap rock, anisotropy of the cap rock, and transmission anisotropy of the overburden on P-wave anisotropic fracture prediction.
