Decoupled elastic reflection traveltime inversion for improving S-wave velocity imaging

摘要:Elastic reflection waveform inversion has great potential to update the low-wavenumber components of P- and S-velocities by relying on reflection kernels. However, the PP and SS mode wavepaths always overlap together due to the coupling effects of different wave modes, and the wavepath overlapping makes the reflection kernels very complicated and introduces artifacts into the inverted P- and S-velocity models. In this abstract, we demonstrate the efforts for inverting the background velocities via elastic reflection traveltime inversion (ERTI), then introduce a decoupled wave equation into ERTI to reduce the coupling effects of different wave modes and further improve the inversion result, especially for the S-velocity. The application on Sigsbee2A model shows the validity of our decoupled ERTI method.
