Geomechanical Modeling of Fracture-to-Well Fracture-to-Fracture and Well-to-Well Interference Caused by Production in Shale Reservoirs

摘要:Field experience shows that production can reduce the pore pressure and form a pressure sink zone. And it can also significantly affect the surrounding stress field distribution, resulting in infill well (child well) fractures and refracturing fractures tend to propagate towards the old well (parent well), that is "frac-hits". In this paper, based on the theory of linear poroelasticity, a hydro-mechanical coupling model is established, and the COMSOL Multiphysics simulation platform is used to calculate the evolution of formation pressure and stress during production. The results show that: (1) the production of old wells can reduce the horizontal principal stress difference, which in turn promotes stress reversal; (2) there are two types of stress reversal zones formed around old wells: discrete stress reversal zones and continuous stress reversal zone; (3) there are three types of the interference: fracture-to-fracture interference, fracture-to-well interference, and well-to-well interference. To overcome the influence of previous fractures on new fractures, it is recommended that the previous wells be fractured firstly to supplement the formation energy, so that the in-situ stress field is re-established.
