Analysis of the factors influencing the sealing performance in subsea electrical connectors

摘要:This study designed a new subsea electrical connector featuring a double soft-shell structure for pressure balance. The sealing behaviour of the connector was comprehensively analysed using the finite element method to explore the impact of factors. The findings revealed that the contact stress between the sealing elements was predominantly influenced by radial compression in the sealing areas, with increased compression-enhancing contact stress and a higher friction coefficient, displaying a minor effect. Variations in the working conditions resulted in minimal contact stress changes, with the primary sealing zone identified between 2 mm and 6 mm. The insertion and extraction speed did not affect the sealing performance. Additionally, a reinforcing nitrile rubber with niacinamide enhanced the contact stress, with an optimal ratio of 20 wt% to 30 wt%. However, excessive niacinamide content impeded insertion and extraction efficiency. These insights provide valuable guidance for the design and optimisation of sealing performance in subsea connectors.
