Enhancing helium extraction and methane recovery from N2-rich low-grade natural gas: a study based on RSM-NSGA-II coupled entropy weight TOPSIS using the HBGS method

摘要:In response to the demand for separating helium (He) and methane (CH4) from nitrogen (N2)-rich low-grade natural gas (NG), the gas separation effect of hydrate-based gas separation (HBGS) method for He extraction and CH4 recovery from N2-rich low-grade NG was studied. An innovative theoretical model is established for the prediction of the gas separation performance via HBGS. The average relative deviation (ARD) between the theoretical model calculation and the experimental measurement results is 2.12 %. Based on the response surface methodology, a low gas–liquid ratio (GLR), low temperature (T) and high pressure (P) are conductive to the improvement of the gas capture rate (GCR) and the He enrichment in the equilibrium gas (cHeeq), but not conducive to the CH4 enrichment in the dissociated gas (cCH4di). Among the factors, T has the most significant impact, followed by P and then GLR. Taking the GCR, cHeeq, cCH4di as evaluation indicators, multi-objective optimization was carried out based on RSM-NSGA-II and the entropy weight TOPSIS method. When the GLR, T and P are 80 NL/L, 279.15 K and 4.5 MPa respectively, the comprehensive separation performance via HBGS method is the best. After three-stage HBGS, the cHeeq increased from 0.61 mol% to 11.38 mol%, and the CH4 recovery factor (RF) reached 99.9 %. The goal of simultaneously concentrating He and recovering CH4 from N2-rich low-grade NG was achieved. This research provides theoretical basis and technical support for the promotion and application of HBGS technology in the gas separation. ? 2025
